Patterns!

Patterns!
A quick internet search can overwhelm you with the amount of free crochet patterns available on the internet. “Crochet hat pattern,” “Crochet scarf pattern,” and the like will give you a lot to choose from.

Also, there are many websites that have compiled links to many patterns, making your searching job much easier. Some of my favorites are:

Lionbrand Yarn Registration is required, but it's free and comes with some handy perks. Also, the patterns they have listed are very professional, with the finished products looking very nice.

Coats and Clarks
Not just for crochet! They have a lot of free patterns and craft ideas, in an easy to search format. Also nifty: you can search by difficulty, so it's easy to find something to start out with. I've found many afghan patterns on this site that I've made/am planning to make.

Crochet Pattern Central This is pretty much the mecha of all crochet patterns. They have a TON of different categories listed, and each category has MANY links to patterns in that category. Also a plus: they have categories for more than just types of products. For example, they have a “Men” category, so you can get some ideas for the males in your life.
Downside, some links take you to websites where you have to register to see the patterns. But overall, it has so many patterns all in one place- I think it's worth the occasional, annoying window.

Bernet This site has both knitting and crochet patterns. But lots of cute things, search function, as well as conveniently organized project types to browse through and such

Planet Purl Planet Purl is a combined knitting/crochet site, and also requires registration. As with Lionbrand, it's also free and your account has some convenient features, including a place to save the patterns you like.
